HISTORY OF THE FACULTY

 The University was established in the year 2005 and it fully kick started academic activities in the year 2010 with four faculties, Namely:

  1. Faculty of Arts
  2. Faculty of Social Sciences
  3. Faculty of Management Sciences
  4. Faculty Natural and AppliedA Sciences

The Faculty is headed by a Dean, hence the Dean office and its responsibilities

THE DEAN OFFICE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 The Dean oversees the entire affairs of the Faculty, supervising and making sure that there is smooth running of activities in the Faculty. The Dean is the Head of the Faculty and there are staff responsible to the Dean:

The faculty has had the privilege to be led by different Deans, who have piloted the affairs of the Faculty right from its inception.

The First Dean that served in the Faculty was

  • Dr. Thomas V. Anpe from (2011-2014) was Succeeded by
  • Late Associate Prof. Rauta Jat from (2014-2016), late Associate Prof. Rauta Jat was succeeded by
  • Mr. Yohanna A. Summangu from (2016-2019)

Currently the Faculty of Management Sciences is headed by Dr. Keziah Y. Ayuba with effect from 2019 to date. Dr. Keziah is the first staff from the Management Studies Department to be appointed as a Dean in the Faculty.

Presently the Faculty has a total of Twenty two (22) Academic Staff, Six (6) Senior Non-Teaching Staff and Three (3) Junior Staff. With the following number of academic staff on training;-  Fifteen (15)  on  training  programmes, Two  (2)  persons  have  completed  their  trainings  while Seven(7)  are yet to complete their programmes.

DR. KEZIAH AYUBA, DEAN, FACULTY OF MANAGEMENT SCIENCE

DR. KEZIAH AYUBA

Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences

Keziah Yiltohom Ayuba, PhD, FHEA, is the Dean Faculty of Management Sciences, Plateau State University, Bokkos, Nigeria. She holds a PhD from the prestigious University of Wolverhampton Business School, United Kingdom. She has taught for about 2 decades within and outside Nigeria. She is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy of the United Kingdom. Her area of research focus includes; Management sciences, Entrepreneurship, Marketing and Economic Development. She has written books, many articles and have published widely in her area of research focus.

STRATEGIES

The following strategies are put in place by the Faculty in order to achieve the set goals,subject to review.

a) Post Graduate Programs: The Faculty is concluding plans to take off with master degree programs in her departments soon.

 

b) Orientation: Orientation for fresh students takes place annually with the Student Affairs Division in collaboration with the Departments after all registrations. This is a common practice to expose the new students to the environment on the Do’s and Don`ts of the University at large. The Faculty/Departments also organizes their orientation afterwards, they address and guide the new students with the knowledge the need in the Faculty/Department of their performance, evaluation criteria, grading system, examinations regulations among other issues.

 

c) Committees: Committees have been put in place to create a strong Faculty Staff and Students based supportive developmental strategies which include the Research and development committee, Lectures and Seminar committee, Sports committee amongst others. This is put in place to enhance the activities of the Faculty and University at large.

Faculty Board Meetings are held periodically to discuss issues affecting the Faculty and at its various Departments.

ACADEMICS

ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES

Academic staff in the Faculty have various domains of research focus of which they have written and published within and outside of Nigeria. For the Account Department, some of their area of research focus are; Accounting and Finance, Taxation, Management Accounting, Public Finance, audit, etc. Academic staff in the Department of Management Studies research focus include; Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Development and Globalization, Management, Corporate Governance, Human Resource Management, etc.

The Faculty has graduated a total of 251 students of which, 126 are from the department of Accounting while 125 are from the department of Management Studies. 3 of the graduated students came out with First class Honors Degrees. 1 from the Department of Accounting and 2 from the Department of Management Studies. The different sets of graduates who now contribute to  the  growth  and  development  of  the  University,  Plateau  State, Nigeria  and  the  world  at  large  in  the  different  fields  of  human  Sciences  and other   entrepreneurial   developments.  

 

ACADEMIC PROGRAMS

The Academic requirements in Management Sciences has been designed in way to make the students get the minimum standards for all courses. The courses are Categorized into two Core (Compulsory) and Electives. The electives are optional courses.

A Core(Compulsory) course must be taken by the students and also the Elective courses which consist of a wide range of courses from which students must select a given number which they must pass before they can be awarded a degree.

ACHIEVEMENTS

A major and significant achievement of the Faculty of Management Sciences was its ability to obtain full Accreditation of its courses on first attempt by the NUC Accreditation team in 2015. Making it the only Faculty in the University with full Accreditation of its courses until recently when more courses got Accreditation in the University.

The entire academic programs of the Faculty have been fully accredited by the  Nigerian  University  Commission  (NUC). With the various proposed submissions   by   the   Departments   for   the   immediate   take   off   of   the postgraduate school, as this has gone a long way to add value to the Faculty and the University generally.

DEVELOPMENT

STAFF DEVELOPMENT

Some of the Staff of the Faculty have bagged doctorate degrees with significant research toward developing the system to a greater height.  Some are still awaiting their masters and doctorate of philosophy degrees. Below are staff that bagged their Ph,D Degree:

  1. Dr. Keziah Y. Ayuba bagged her Ph. D at the University of Wolver Hampton Business School United Kingdom.
  2. Dr. William Adiak bagged his Ph. D at the University Of Jos.
PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT

The Faculty since inception has been allocated to its ultra-modern complex.  This has gone a long way in providing office accommodations for staff members  and  also lecture Halls  to enhance academic activities.

SPORTS

The Faculty has always strived hard to become paste setters in the University. For that reason, the Faculty sports team due to their collective effort were:

  1.  Winners of the maiden Vice-Chancellor’s Cup in 2018.
  2. The Faculty also emerged 2nd in the Vice Chancellor’s Sports championship in the year 2019.

CHALLENGES

Like any other institution of higher learning, the Faculty of Management Sciences is also confronted with challenges among which are:

  1. Inadequate availability of working tools in the Faculty: Lecture hall projectors, smart boards, sound systems among others.
  2. Shortage of professors in the faculty.
