On the 21st December 2001, His Excellency, Chief (Dr) Joshua Chibi Dariye, FCA, FABE, MBA, MLD, the Executive Governor of Plateau State made a policy statement on the plans to establish Plateau State University. This was followed by the appointment and subsequent inauguration of a Special Planning Committee for the proposed university on 25th June 2002, under the Chairmanship of Professor Ochapa C. Onazi, OON.

It is with immense joy that I welcome you all to Plateau State University, Bokkos. The institiution is located on a large expanse of virgin land measuring more than 700 hectares between the Butura and Tarangol axis of Bokkos Local Government Area about 50 killometers away from Jos the State capital.
