NEW PLASU ACTING VC PROF. SHEDRACK BEST RESTATE COMMITMENT TO ENSURE RESUMPTION OF ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES

The Acting Vice Chancellor, Plateau State University Bokkos, Professor Shadrack Gaya Best has restated his commitment in ensuring that academic activities resume soon after months of disruption as a result of the industrial action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Plateau State University chapter.
Professor Best gave the hint during a meeting in his office with a coalition of Student Union Associations of Plateau State University, Bokkos who came to welcome him.
According to him, the prolonged strike action has crippled academic activities rendering students idle, and promised to do everything humanly possible by engaging the Academic Staff Union to see reasons why the strike action must be called off in the interest of future of the students who are tomorrow's future.
The Acting Vice Chancellor expressed delight over the maturity displayed by the Students during the recent change which saw him assuming the mantle of leadership following his appointment by Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang led administration.
He said his mandate and mission is well defined and is in tandem with the "Time Is Now" philosophy of restoring hope and the confidence of both Students, Parents and Stakeholders in the capacity of the management to deliver on its mandate which is tailored towards, teaching research and community service. Professor Best disclosed that he has interacted with the State Government which has restated its determination and committed to addressing the plight of Students which is expressed through the fifty percent reduction in tuition fees as palliative to cushion the effects of the biting inflation occasioned by the subsidy removal resulting in the difficulty faced by parents and guardians in meeting the needs of their children and wards.
On the security situation in and around the Campus, Professor Best noted that the State and Nation is bedevilled by security challenges but assured that he will collaborate with security agencies in providing increased security of both staff and students of the University by ensuring that the University is completely fenced while surveillance of the university environment is appropriately addressed to ward off intruders.
Among other issues presented to the Vice Chancellor by the Students Union Government (SUG) led by the President, Gomos Timothy for consideration include: provision of drugs in the university health centre and 24 hour services, provision of students identification cards, portable water supply and electricity both on and off campus, sustainable ambulance services, provision of staff quarters and a student union vehicle and the return of the student's centre to provide both office and residential accommodation for visiting student union guests among others. In response to the avalanche of the requests, Professor Best promised to make consultations and reconvene a meeting with the students.
Prayers were then said for the success of the Vice Chancellor in delivering on his mandate.
