PROFESSOR BEST ADVOCATES FOR SUSTAINABLE MAINTENANCE CULTURE AND ENVIRONMENTAL HYGIENE FOR PLASU

The Acting Vice Chancellor Plateau State University Bokkos, Professor Shedrack Gaya Best has advocated for a robust maintenance culture and a clean hygienic environment for the University.
Professor Best who was speaking during a familiarization visit round facilities of the University said without such a culture put in place, the beauty and ambiance of the University will be compromised.
According to Professor Best, since the University will be attracting both local and international scholars, it is imperative for it to present a healthy, welcoming and attractive environment and for its guests and scholars. He then urged both Staff and Students to inculcate the culture of keeping the campus environment friendly which is both attractive and welcoming.
Professor Best who was accompanied by Principal Officers of the University said laziness and dereliction of responsibility will not be condoned. He then gave marching orders to Departmental and Unit Heads to rise to the occasion or be sanctioned appropriately.
Places visited by the Acting Vice Chancellor include the Senate Chamber, Procurement Office and Stores, the ICT Centre, Faculty Buildings, the School of Postgraduate Studies, 600 Capacity Lecture Theatre, the University Library and Health Centre, Advancement and Linkages, the Entrepreneurship Centre as well as the Students Centre.
At the Students Centre, Professor Best said following appeals made by the Students Union Government for the return of the facility to them, a meeting will be convened with the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Dean of Students Affairs and Leaders of the Student's Union Government to fine-tune modalities for the return of the facility to them.
The Vice Chancellor also disclosed that in order to strengthen the security apparatus of the University, a CCTV camera will be installed in addition to constructing a perimeter fence round the University to check the activities of intruders while government is approached on other issues.
In the course of the visit, the Vice Chancellor interacted with some students he met on the Campus where he assured them of ongoing efforts by the management to ensure that the prolonged strike action of the Academic Staff Union is called off to enable them commence lectures.
He further directed the Director of Works, Builder Denmwaka Sarah Tsemwan Wayo to ensure that identified construction problems are addressed before the resumption of the students.
