Plateau State University Bokkos Seeks Partnership with Police Authorities to Enhance Campus Security
March 11, 2024 - The Acting Vice Chancellor of Plateau State University Bokkos, Prof. Shadrach Best, has called for a collaborative effort with the Nigerian Police Force to bolster the safety and security of lives and properties within the university premises.
During a familiarization visit by CP Yabanet Steve, the Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command on Monday, Prof. Best emphasized the pressing need to address security threats confronting the university community. These threats include incidents of criminal trespassing by herders and violent attacks on both staff and students by criminals.
Prof. Best advocated for the establishment of a police station within the university campus and regular patrols to ensure the safety of all members of the university community. He reiterated the university's reliance on the police as the primary security agency for safeguarding the Plateau State University Bokkos.
Highlighting the porous nature of the campus due to incomplete fencing, Prof. Best disclosed plans to expedite the fencing project to mitigate security risks within the university grounds.
In response, Commissioner of Police, CP Steve, assured the university management of his command's commitment to collaborating in enhancing campus security. He disclosed the visit intended to be replicated in all tertiary institutions in the state aims to identify challenges and implement viable solutions.
CP Steve also mentioned the Inspector General of Police's “operation safer schools,” aimed at protecting higher institutions nationwide, and assured that Plateau State University Bokkos would benefit from this initiative through the allocation of resources and manpower.
In conclusion, both parties expressed their readiness to work together in ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment for all stakeholders within the university community.
