DANCE AND DRAMA,HEALING THERAPY: PLASU VC

Dance and drama has been been described as the best therapy for healing, relaxation and long life. Vice Chancellor of Plateau State University Bokkos Professor Matur Malau Bernard stated this when he was hosted by the Department of Theatre Arts to a special performance officially welcoming him to the University.
Professor Matur therefore promised to partner with the Theatre Arts Department of the University because of its enormous potentials to generate internal revenue and to serve as a tonic for recreation for both the University and it's host communities.
To this end, Professor Matur said a befitting Modern Indoor theatre will be constructed for the department and directed the department to consult with qualified architects and designers to come up with a modern design and blueprint for the project.
He also promised to encourage the many talents that the University has to realize their full potentials saying those who excel will be retained by the University on completion of their studies.
Speaking earlier,Head of the Department of Theatre Arts in the University,Dr. Obidah Solomon Yamma told Professor Matur that it has been the tradition of the department to stage command performances welcoming it's new Vice Chancellor's and other important dignitaries to the University.
He told Professor Matur that the University had in 2018 hosted the Nigerian Universities theatre arts festival (NUTAF) during which the University won laurels including the best actors award.
He used the occasion to also request the Vice Chancellor to provide the department with additional academic staff, dance studio, adequate lighting for the open air studio, befitting costumes, drums, video and still cameras, a standard public address system and computers to meet their training needs.
The event which featured a performance a PLASU upcoming comedian, the retired madman had speeches and drama presentation by 100 level students on Wole Soyinka's play Child International directed by Associate Professor Edward Ossai and assistant by Dr Esther Akumbo Nyam.
In another development, Professor Matur also played host to the Butura Women Development Association, Bokkos Branch who were in the University to solidarise with him on his appointment and pray for a successful tenure.
The Women who were accompanied on the visit by the Patron of the Association represented by Mr. Barnabas David Mashen spoke through their Assistant Women leader Mrs. Martha Luka Mashingil who praised Professor Matur for his laudable and landmark contributions to the development of education and urged him to be patient and strong willed in administering the University.
She then appealed to him to consider qualified sons and daughters of the community in both admissions and employment.
Responding, Professor Matur appreciated the Butura Women for identifying with him and promised not to let them down while calling on them to continue to pray for his success.
