SAF BUTURA URGES PLASU MANAGEMENT TO ENGAGE HOST COMMUNITY LEADERS TACKLING LAND ISSUES

Saf Butura, Engr. Dr. John Mallau Makwal has urged the Management of Plateau State University Bokkos to strengthen its engagement with the Butura Community Development Association towards finding lasting solutions to land issues bedeviling the University.
According to the Monarch, if proper channels of Communication are utilized by the Visitor and proprietor of the University, such dialogue could widen the frontiers of understanding thus bringing about quick development.
Saf Makwal made the call when playing host to the Professor Angela Miri led the Visitation Panel to Plateau State University Bokkos recently constituted by Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang at his Palace in Butura Gida.
The team was accompanied on the visit by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics, Professor Pefa Moses Galadima who represented the Vice Chancellor, Professor Matur Malau Bernard.
Saf Butura while commending the steps taken by Governor Mutfwang in constituting the visitation panels to appraise the present State of the tertiary institutions in the state, maintained that the appointment of their son, Professor Matur Malau Bernard as Vice Chancellor of the University has given them a sense of belonging in the University project promising to continue to collaborate with the University for the good of the state.
He however expressed worry on issues of lack of compensation to land owners and offering employment and admission to deserving members of their community which will help douse tension and agitations among his subjects.
Vice Chancellor Plateau State University, Bokkos, Professor Matur Mallau Bernard represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics, Professor Moses Galadima Pyefa expressed the willingness of the University in working closely with the traditional institution and the community leaders of host communities in rendering community service which is one of the objectives and cardinal principles of the University in line with the laws establishing the University.
While explaining the essence of the visit, Chairman of the Visitation Panel, Professor Angela Freeman Miri said part of the teams mandate was to interact with the host communities towards finding common grounds with the host communities of the university as assigned by the state Government.
She maintained that the work of the Panel was not to witch-hunt anyone but to work towards finding best ways of revamping and strengthening the tertiary institutions in the state for optimal performance and results.
Professor Miri said the Panel is tasked to receive memos from major stakeholders, staff, students and the host community tailored towards improving the University which would be forwarded to the Visitor to the University Information and informed decision and action towards improving the University.
